DIY Christmas balls from threads. Do-it-yourself Christmas balls from threads step by step with a photo

Hollow balls of thread look unusual and very beautiful. Today we will tell you how to make them and offer some ideas for making Christmas accessories using this decoration.

Balls of thread can be used as an independent decoration for the Christmas tree, turn them into a sparkling garland, build a New Year's character from them, and much more. So arm yourself with threads, and then your imagination will do everything for you.

What will we need?

  • threads of any color and thickness (fluffy should not be taken)
  • Balloons
  • PVA glue
  • starch

Working process

Earlier we told you how to make a lampshade from threads. The technique for making these balls will be similar.

The main difference is that you do not need to inflate the balloons too much. Make them very small - the size of a fist. Inflate as many balloons as you need. And tie them somewhere so that it is convenient to wrap and dry the future craft.

In a bowl, mix one and a half cups of glue with a half cup of starch and a quarter cup of water. We dip the thread into a bowl and wind it around the ball in random order.

You can pre-lubricate the balloon with Vaseline to make it easier to separate it from the thread. However, you can do without it.

When the glue dries and the threads harden, you just need to pierce the ball with a needle and carefully pull it out through the hole.

Make as many balloons as you need to make the desired accessories. You can use them in different ways.

Balls of thread for the Christmas tree

This area of application is the most obvious, but no less significant.

Just attach the loops to your balls and decorate the Christmas tree with them. Additionally, various beads can be strung during winding. Before drying, the balls can be generously sprinkled with dry sparkles.

The thinner the threads, the more beautiful the jewelry. Regular sewing thread will work too.

Christmas tree from balls

We have already told you what beautiful compositions can be made from various Christmas balls. In any of the techniques described, you can use not only standard ready-made balls, but also homemade balls of thread and glue. For example, you can collect a Christmas tree from them. If not all, then at least part of it.

When making such Christmas decorations, it is better to use balls made from thicker threads - they are stronger.

New Year's interior decoration

Despite the obvious simplicity of the idea, the effect is simply amazing!

Make several balls of different sizes and simply place them on the windowsill. Scatter between them pieces of tinsel, various stars, gold ribbons. Place a few simple candles nearby (in this case, take precautions) or arrange a garland (less fire hazard, but still be careful). Turn off the lights and turn on the lights - the house will be filled with magic!

balloon snowman

And even your favorite New Year's character in this technique turns out to be somehow especially beautiful.

Fasten the balls with glue, and the hands need to be done separately. To do this, we need a thin wire and red threads. Fold the wire in the form of mittens, coat them with glue and wrap them tightly with thread.

Ready-made snowmen can be decorated with knitted hats, beads and other accessories.

Garland with balls of thread

One of the most beautiful accessories that can be made from these balloons.

Just be sure to check the garland for serviceability. In addition, it must be of high quality, and best of all - with additional protection against heating. Be careful not to overheat the bulbs. If you doubt that your garland meets all safety requirements, it is better to refuse this idea.

To make a similar garland with your own hands, you just need to push the threads a little, put the light bulb in and move the threads back. The main thing is that the light bulb does not come into contact with the threads.

Such a garland looks very beautiful on the Christmas tree, and on the wall, and on the windowsill.

Hanging decoration

Balls of thread can simply be hung from the ceiling.

If you don't feel like putting in the extra effort, just hang all your balloons over a table or door. It looks very unusual and impressive, adds comfort to the house.

Choose any of the proposed ideas or come up with something of your own. This Christmas decoration can be used in dozens of different accessories. And each will be beautiful in its own way.

I am a decorator designer and sometimes I have interesting orders. This time, when decorating a wedding, the bride wanted to decorate the ceiling of the hall with thread balls.

For fans of the Pinterest service like me, there is a special article about Pinterest fails - like it can be beautiful on the Internet in pictures and how the user then encounters reality:

In our case, this was the case.
The first photo is Pinterest, the second is reality :)

And some more reality:

That is, before the first perfect ball, we had 4 attempts to choose glue, application method, type of winding.

So I propose a proven system:

1) It is most convenient to take balls in a round shape with an elastic band at the end. They are sold in any stores for children or in the sections of supermarkets about the holiday. All balls are reusable. It's a question of economy. If you are only making one ball, you can just use a bare ball and then blow or pop it.

In our case, it was necessary to make 30 balls, so I bought 7 bases and I had a cycle of 7 pieces.

2) Each ball is wrapped with cling film so that the rubber does not shrink from glue, etc.
We tie the tip, which is inflated, on a thread and also wrap it tightly with a film so as not to eat glue later, we leave only the back of the pip open, for which we will hold.

Lubricate the film on top of the ball with sunflower oil or Johnson's baby oil. Why do it?

In fact, even if you do not smear, the ball will still lag behind the film, but when you wind the threads, they leave glue strips on the cellophane. If you leave it as is, then the glue dries with a film between the threads and it must be cut out (see photo of the blue ball at the beginning of the post). If there is oil, then it sort of rolls off and remains on the film just like balls.

3) Glue!!!
Glue should be used PVA brand M (furniture). That is, ordinary clerical glue is not suitable (PVA-K), it does not hold at all. Glue must be bought with the expectation of 1 liter for 7-10 balls, with a diameter of 30 cm. It took me about 3 liters for 32 balls.
PVA glue should not be taken as an emulsion, although it is more expensive, it dries like epoxy surrounding each thread with a transparent cocoon, but simply building pva-m for wood, etc.

Good glue in the photo with a pink label, it was bought in Leroy-Merlin for 23 UAH - 1 liter.

We prepare the glue in portions, adding water and starch to make the ball harder. I cooked about 300 ml in a vessel - a couple of tablespoons of starch and 20-30 ml of water to knead the starch. Make the solution by eye - the glue should not end up much more liquid than before dilution.

THREADS!!
As it turned out, the question is not fundamental. I took a large acrylic yarn of 300 meters per 100 grams, blue is natural cotton-bamboo. Both natural and artificial thread glued well, provided that it was well impregnated.

4) Two people usually participate in master classes - one person dries the threads in the vessel (he hammers glue into the threads), and the second one winds.
We didn't do it that way, but made a system out of a bottle. In a half-liter bottle, we made two holes - at the bottom and in the cork. In a dry bottle, the thread was threaded with a needle from the bottom up. The hole was made according to the size of the thread so that it would enter tightly, then the glue would not pour out back. In the cork, you can make a hole a little wider so that the glue is not squeezed out all the way, and the thread comes out wet.
So, when each thread passed through the entire length of the bottle from the bottom up and, savoring, was squeezed out a little at the exit, an assistant was not needed. If the thread ran out, then I made a knot in advance before entering the bottle and connected them.

5) The work is dirty, I did everything on the balcony. She spread oilcloth on the floor, put on a raincoat on herself, but backwards. She took up the bottle with her feet and shook it.

First you make a circle around the ball and tie it in a knot, then you wind it randomly.

It is convenient to wind if you pull out a long segment (one and a half to two meters) with glue from the bottle and twist it around the ball, distributing the threads. Then draw the next one. Small pieces are less neat.

6) The balls were drying on the balcony. It was hot, so they dried out in about half a day. I wound early in the morning and in the evening - at night.

7) When they were completely dry, I looked for a pip to inflate, untied it and let the air out. The film and the ball were taken out from a large sector nearby.

8) Such a hill gradually grew.

We used balloons to decorate the ceiling at a wedding, photo report here.

New Year is a magical holiday! Not only kids, but also adults are looking forward to it. And decorating the Christmas tree with toys, garlands and tinsel is a very exciting activity. Especially when you do it with your kids.
On the eve of the New Year 2017, a competition of New Year's toys for the Christmas tree began in our kindergarten. And so my eldest son and I decided to take part in it. We chose for a long time what kind of New Year's toy we should make. As a result, we opted for a Christmas tree ball made of threads. When I was in school, we made these in the Skillful Hands circle.
To make our Christmas ball, we need the following:

  • balloon;
  • yarn or thick threads;
  • PVA glue and super glue;
  • sequins;
  • tinsel;
  • sequins;
  • needle with a wide eye;
  • fat cream;
  • ribbon.

1. First you need to inflate the balloon to the size we need. Remember that the size of the future toy directly depends on the size of the ball.

2. Then we lubricate our balloon with a fat baby cream. It’s even better to lubricate it with Vaseline, but, unfortunately, I don’t have it at home. This is done so that the threads easily fall off the ball after drying, with which we wrap it.

3. Next, we insert the thread into the eye of the needle and pierce the bottle with PVA glue, approximately in the middle, so that the thread of yarn, passing through it, gets wet.

4. Now we begin to carefully wrap our balloon. First, leave a large distance between the threads of yarn. Then gradually reduce this distance. As a result, our balloon should be well wrapped and look a bit like a cocoon. Cut the thread and glue it to the top of the ball.

5. While the threads are not dry, you need to sprinkle the ball with sparkles, which you can make yourself from tinsel or rain. But you can do without it. My son and I decided to sprinkle it so that our Christmas ball would be brighter and prettier.

6. That's it, now you need to leave it to dry for about a day.
The next day, we carefully pierced the ball with a needle and removed it from the workpiece - the “cocoon”.

7. So the fun begins, namely the decoration of the toy.
From ribbons we make flowers - just twisting. We had a blue ribbon at home, so our flowers are blue. And carefully, using super glue, glue them to the “cocoon” ball in a chaotic manner.

8. We only have sequins in silver color, and then we glue them, also with super glue, so that they are between the flowers.

9. On top of the “cocoon”, where the balloon was tied, it turned out not very beautiful, so we masked and decorated this place at the same time with a twisted narrow ribbon and a large shiny button.

10. And so that our ball toy can be hung on a New Year tree, we also make a loop from a ribbon, only green so that it does not merge with the flowers, and decorate it with a small fragment of tinsel. The size of the loop should depend on the size of the toy.

11. So that our ball can not only be hung on a Christmas tree, but also put for interior decoration, we glued some green tinsel from below. And here's what we got.

We don’t know yet whether our balloon toy will take any prize at the competition in kindergarten, since the competition is not over yet. But my eldest son said that we made the most beautiful ball with him, he had never seen such a beautiful one. And for me this is the best compliment.

Happy New Year 2017 everyone!!!

Greetings to all lovers of needlework! Under the influence of the pre-holiday fuss, I again joined the creative process of creating something new and curious. are original decorations with which you can decorate not only a festive Christmas tree, but also any space. The creation of such toys is a fascinating process that will appeal to both adults and children.

Last year I already introduced you to my first experience. I made balls using knitting threads. But I didn’t post the master class, but showed only the result. If you are interested in how they are made, then you can watch a detailed video in the article "".

Since I already have balls, although I gave away most of them last New Year, but I still have a few left, I decided to experiment a little more and made flat decorations from threads using this technique. This time, I will share with you the whole process and the result of my efforts.

MATERIALS FOR CREATING NEW YEAR DECORATIONS FROM THREADS AND GLUE

Threads for knitting in different colors

PVA glue

Water

Needles with tips

foam tray

Beautiful round laces or ribbons

Various decorative embellishments (sequins, glitter, ribbons, lace, etc.)

The first step is to draw on thick paper the patterns of toys that you want to make and cut them out. I got them like this. I decided that I would make a ball, a house, a star and a Christmas tree.

After that, we proceed directly to work. For this I used a styrofoam tray. You can think of something else, but this item should be flat and well pierced with needles. One more moment. Since the thickness of the tray is not very large, and for work it is necessary that the needles sit tight enough, I placed a fabric folded several times under the tray from below. The needles pass through the bottom of the tray and penetrate the material. Thus, they are securely fixed and do not move under the tension of the threads.

At the bottom of the tray, you need to put stencils of future toys and mark with needles all the corners of the figure and some intermediate places (optional). The more needles, the more intricate and dense the pattern.

We take any deep plate and pour PVA into it. If the glue is thick, then it must be diluted with a small amount of water. The thicker the resulting liquid, the denser and stronger the toy will be as a result. We put the threads with which we will work in a plate and let them soak thoroughly with liquid. This is an important point, as unimpregnated threads will remain soft. And that's not what we need. But don't keep them there for too long. One minute is enough.

After that, we pull the thread by the tail and pull it between the needles in various directions. Create a chaotic geometric pattern. Please note that I made the Christmas tree from two colors: white and green. Initially, I pulled a white thread, and then a green one. Thus, the Christmas tree on both sides is a different color. I pulled the asterisk completely from red threads.

In the same way, I made a house and a ball. By the way, on the house, I additionally made a window. It is performed after the yellow threads for the main pattern are pulled between the needles.

This time, I did not wait until my toys dry naturally, but dried them with a hair dryer. This took some time. Do not pull out the needles during drying!

After the product is almost dry, it must be carefully separated from the tray and dried on the reverse side. Here is what I got as a result. In principle, they can be left in this form. But, I decided that I would make them more artistic and decorative.

This part of the process took me most of the time. I raked out what I have in my handicraft arsenal and began to come up with decorating options. As you can see, I used a variety of materials: a string of imitation pearls, sequins, silk ribbons, a pendant with a pebble, a golden ribbon, and even the remains of a bead attachment.

Each toy was hung on round strings. Here are the New Year's decorations from threads that I get as a result.

To be honest, I liked the Christmas tree the most. She is beautiful in her simplicity. The pearl garlands make it very dressy and a bit glamorous. I'm already thinking about making such Christmas trees as a gift to my friends, but only all of them are multi-colored. I am sure that they should also turn out beautiful and bright.

A wreath on the head of decorative flowers with your own hands

Hair jewelry is very popular right now. They are worn by all female representatives, from small to large. One of the original accessories are wreaths and headbands, ...

New Year is a time of gifts, guests and fun. One of the most pleasant moments before the holiday is the decoration of the Christmas tree, which is almost impossible to imagine without traditional balls. Have you tried to make a Christmas ball with your own hands from any improvised materials? For example, ordinary threads are perfect for this. The ball will turn out to be openwork, airy, delicate and elegant. It is sure to impress all your guests.

The basis for this craft will be a round-shaped inflatable children's ball. And the process of its manufacture is extremely simple and accessible even to a child.

For work you will need:

First, inflate the balloon to the desired size of the future balloon. We tightly tie the lower end of the ball with a thread so that it does not bloom. We take the threads for knitting and begin to wind the inflated ball. You can turn on your imagination and experiment with color combinations of threads, combining different shades.

This can be done in two ways:

  • pour glue into a cup and soak the threads with a foam sponge;
  • make a hole in the jar of glue and pull the thread through it before you wind it around the ball.
  • Wrapping the ball, the thread will immediately be saturated with glue through the jar. After impregnation with glue, the ball must be removed to dry for about a day. The time it takes to dry depends on the density and quality of the yarn.

    When the surface of the ball is completely dry, you can safely proceed to the next step. We take a sewing needle and carefully pierce the balloon in several places. It will deflate in front of your eyes very quickly. As soon as the ball is blown away, it is necessary to remove it from the workpiece, dragging it between the threads hardened by glue.

    Let's start decorating. To do this, we take the beads and string them on a needle and thread, thereby getting just such a pendant.

    We make two such pendants. The next element of decor is a satin ribbon bow. We do everything elementary and by eye. We take a satin ribbon and tie an ordinary bow.

    Cut out a rectangle from a piece of mesh and assemble it in the middle. It turns out another mini-bow, which we sew by hand behind a blank made from ribbon. In the center of the double bow we sew a large bead to match, but you can, in principle, do without it.

    We fix the finished bow on the ball with glue or thread with a needle. We also sew bead pendants to the ball, placing them in height with a difference of about 2-3 cm relative to each other.

    The final touch is the main pendant, for which the ball can be hung on a festive tree. We will make it from a braid about 15-20 cm long. You can simply tie the braid into a small knot or sweep its ends with a needle and thread. It remains to find a worthy place for this cute ball in the decoration of the Christmas tree or in the New Year's decoration of your home.

    You can arrange a composition of several balls, different in size and color - for example, put them in a huge decorative vase. Complete the composition with fir branches or artificial flowers. The main thing is to "turn on" the fantasy, and your balls will be the most exclusive.
