How to sew a blanket from plush and cotton. Sewing tips for sewing plush and fleece fabrics. What can you sew from minky plush?

Hello everyone))) I would like to invite you to sew a baby mammoth according to my pattern))) Don’t throw your slippers too hard, this is my first such MK))) I made a master class for a competition. Here we go? ...

Looking at him, a song pops up in my head...

Let mom hear, let mom come,
May my mother definitely find me!

So that children are lost.
After all, this doesn’t happen in the world,
So that children are lost.)))

Here's what we need:

3. Cotton for the inside of the ear

I don’t write the size because everyone will choose according to the height of their baby mammoth

11. etc. what would you like to decorate with?

1. Determine the direction of the pile. The pile must look down

2. Fold our piece and transfer the pattern to the fabric (don’t forget about the seam allowances). We begin to sew. You can sew by hand (Fig. 1), or by machine (stitch length 2 mm) Don’t forget to leave the space for stuffing unsewn

3. After we have sewn our parts, we cut them out leaving allowances of 2-3 mm

4. Sew together the parts of the body and head

5. Sew the ears. Turn it inside out. It turned out to be such a miracle. Now you can start assembling

6. We will attach the head with cotter pins. We insert one cotter pin into the other. To do this, the “tendrils” of one of the cotter pins need to be slightly separated

7. We put a disk and washer on top of one of the cotter pins. Using pliers, we twist the “tendrils” (only on one side!) The “antennae” must be rounded so that they fall on the washer

8. We stuff the head, insert the fastener and sew up the hole with a hidden seam (Fig. 2)

9. The result is a little head like this

10. Now we connect the head with the body. We insert the cotter pin into the body, put the disk and washer on it

11. We twist the “antennae” in the same way as we did before

12. Now you can start filling the body. First add 1 - 1.5 teaspoons of granulate, then filler. Filling the paws.

13. Now you can start attaching the legs. We try on the legs and start sewing.

14. We will need a long needle and strong thread. We thread the needle (it is better to cut the thread longer) We pierce our foot

15. We insert the needle into the body where the paws were tried on (places can be marked with pins). We bring the needle to the opposite side. Do not tighten the thread too much, leave a tip of 10 cm

16. Pierce the second leg. We insert the needle into the body, stepping back from the puncture to the side of 2-3 mm and bring it out to the opposite side, also stepping back from the puncture.

17. Pierce the foot in the opposite direction

18. Take our ponytails and bring them one by one to the opposite side next to the puncture, leaving 1-2 mm between them

19. We carefully begin to tighten our ponytails and see how the legs are pressed against the body. When we see that we have tightened it enough, we tie the tails into a knot and hide them in the body. Our baby is already emerging

20. We do the same with the upper legs.

21. Let's start designing the muzzle. Cut out circles from felt with a diameter slightly larger than our eyes.

22. Make eye tighteners.

23. We put our circles into the recesses

24. Prepare the eyes. Cut a strong thread and tie it in a loop

26. We insert both ends of the thread into the needle and stick it into our prepared circle, bringing the needle out at the base of the head. Gently tighten the eye so that it falls into place. We do the same with the second eye.

27. We tie our ponytails into a knot and hide them in our heads.

28. This is the kind of face you should get. Use pins to mark the place for the ears.

29. Let's start with the ears. Where we have an unsewn place left, we sew it up with a hidden seam (Fig. 2) and tighten it to get gathers. We sew on the ears where we marked them with pins in advance.

Our baby is ready! There's not much left to decorate it.

Thank you for your attention)))

Features and characteristics of Minky plush - everything from A to Z

For those who are involved in or are just interested in needlework or sewing, Minky pimpled fabric is something modern and stylish. I really want to use it somewhere, but not everyone knows where it’s better. So, for those who want to keep up with the times and keep up with fashion, while appreciating quality and comfort, we recommend reading this article.

First, let's figure out what the material with the modern name Minky is.

This is a fleecy microfiber plush. The pile is low - from 2 to 8 mm, but not too thick (compared to velvet). Pimples come in different sizes and heights. The material is warm, soft and very pleasant to the touch. As soon as you touch the canvas, you will certainly want to wrap yourself in it and drown in an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. That is why Minky is best suited for blankets, blankets, pillows, sheets, children's bedding, toys, etc. Remember the world-famous collections of teddy bears... And how warm and gentle it is in adult and children's pajamas, scarves...

Using this fabric, you can decorate diapers that are intended for reusable use, which also improves the baby’s tactile sensations (to do this, cover the oilcloth base of the diaper with plush). If you sew a strip of fabric to the top rim of the bib, it will not only make it stylish, but also more pleasant to the baby's delicate skin.

Very beautiful and delicate discharge envelopes for a newborn, which are perfect as a gift.

The plush material makes beautiful DIY crafts; it is perfect for decorating both clothing, furniture, and home accessories. Any items made from this fabric make the room more comfortable and modern.

Minky looks expensive and presentable. If you want to add “wealth” and luxury to the interior, decorate it with products made from pimply plush. A variety of colors and patterns on the fabric allows you to choose for every taste and for any idea.

The Minka plush collection contains bright, delicate, rich colors: from bright yellow with polka dots to a soft beige palette.

Features of Minky Plush:

1.Made from 100% polyester. Many people consider polyester harmful and uncomfortable. In fact, this opinion is erroneous, since high-quality fabric, which is produced on modern equipment, is safe. She is also practical and beautiful. This is a special type of synthetic fabric. Its external characteristics are similar to wool, its properties are similar to cotton.

2.Minky is made using modern technologies from good polyester. It has no unpleasant odor, does not fade, and the color does not remain on the skin.

3. Despite the fact that plush is artificial, it is no worse than natural fabrics;

4.The material is “breathable”;

5. The shape of the products does not deform after washing and does not shrink, dries quickly;

6.The fabric is safe even for newborns;

7.Does not lose color, does not fade;

8.The material is warm, retains heat well;

9.Can be used in different areas of life: wardrobe, kitchen, bedroom, children's room;

10. Poor tearing;

11. Excellent for sewing (when cutting plush, it is better to take a margin of 2-3 cm on each side if the main fabric is present; this way you can avoid distortions);

12. The width is usually 160 cm. Which is quite enough even for sewing a single bedspread without seams;

13.The material is light and soft;

14.Does not rub or tear;

15.Does not cause allergies or skin irritations even in the smallest;

16.Moths and other pests are “not interested” in this material;

17.Has dirt-repellent properties;

18.Does not absorb odors;

19.Does not absorb drink, which is very valuable for children's products, especially blankets and toys;

20.The fabric does not contain hazardous chemicals;

21.Made using embossing. There are convex peas (or hearts) on the outside, and small indentations on the inside;

22.Huge collection of colors.

The period when fabrics were chosen only by color and size has already passed. Demanding buyers pay attention to both quality and performance characteristics. One of the main ones is density, which means the number of threads per cm2. For Minky plush, the American measurement system is used - grams per m2. You can order Minky plush in different densities - from 250-350 g/m2.

· The higher the density, the denser and stronger the fabric; it is difficult to tear.

· If the density is higher, the material is more hydroscopic, that is, it absorbs moisture better and faster.

· With a low density, plush allows air to pass through and “breathe” better.

· The service life of high-density fabrics is longer. They are less picky about care.

· Low density wears out faster.

That is, 250 g/m2 is a durable material. Great for sheets, diapers and blankets. 350 g/m2 – the fabric is denser and more durable. An excellent choice for blankets, bedspreads, rugs, home textiles, etc. At a price higher than the previous one.

Improper care of this material can play a cruel joke on you, after which the plush products may lose their appearance and shape:

1. Plush is a slightly capricious fabric, so if possible, it is better not to wash it at home, but to take it to the dry cleaner;

2. If you decide to wash at home, do not twist or use “aggressive” chemical detergents or hard brushes. In the washing machine, turn off the spin function. It is advisable to choose the “delicate” washing mode. Fabric softeners do not need to be used.

3. You need to wash at a temperature of +30 °C, not higher.

4. You cannot bleach.

5. It is better not to iron, as this will negatively affect the appearance. Especially in the case of the puffy Minky. If this cannot be avoided, then “Vertical steaming” is allowed. Not all iron models have this function; in this case, you need to iron with a not very hot iron, preferably through gauze. To avoid wrinkles, lay the fabric on a flat surface after washing.

If you like coziness and warmth, Minky Plush is the best choice for an affordable price. Our online store "Meter Fabric" offers high-quality materials and textile accessories for the most limitless and original fantasies. You can order material from us in any quantity, any color. Creating and decorating a children's room, buying diapers, diapers, toys, fairy tales - everything falls on the shoulders of parents, having a great impact on the size of the wallet.

Due to high costs, the budget quickly evaporates, so you need to start saving. Saving does not mean buying bad and low-quality products. Saving means thinking with your own head and correctly calculating your budget. A good way to save your budget is to sew children's clothes at home. For example, a blanket. In the store you can find blankets of different quality and color, different shapes and brands, but the markup makes itself felt. There is no such markup in online stores, but is it possible to virtually touch a blanket and check the quality of the seams. A good option is to make a minky plush blanket with your own hands.

Why plush and cotton?

Minky plush is microfiber. Soft, gentle, fits pleasantly on the body. Warm and breathable, your baby will stay warm without sweating.

Made from 100% polyester. Many people consider this to be a guarantee of poor quality. Modern technologies are constantly developing, so synthetic material is no worse than natural material, and in some ways even better. There is no unpleasant odor, and it does not absorb environmental odors.

The material is very dense, so it will be difficult to tear or wipe. It also does not wrinkle and easily tolerates stains. You can wash it at least every week, and it will not lose its rich colors, its softness and tenderness.

High-quality plush - American made. But material from European, Chinese and Korean factories will do.

Cotton is natural, hypoallergenic. Excellent air permeability, allowing the skin to breathe. Absorbs 20% moisture while remaining dry. A variety of colors and prints give you the choice to suit your taste.

Producers of high-quality cotton are American, Korean, and Polish factories. European and Chinese cotton is also suitable.

How to sew a summer and winter minky plush blanket for a child yourself?

First you need to wash the cotton fabric in warm water. As a result of washing, the blanket may change its size, so it is better to let only the cotton be deformed, otherwise the blanket will be disfigured.

Sizes for baby blanket:

  • 100×100 cm;
  • 100×110 cm;
  • 100×120 cm.

You can make a smaller blanket, but then it will not last long, because children grow very quickly.

  1. Lay out the plush on a flat surface. We measure the required size and cut off the excess. We carry out the same actions with cotton fabric.
  2. Place the two types of fabric together, right sides inward. Since plush stretches well, it is better to pin its edges to the edges of the cotton.
  3. We make a basting or immediately sew it on a machine using a regular seam, retreating 5-10 mm from the edge. You need to leave about 15 cm so that there is a hole through which you can turn the product right side out.
  4. Turning the bedspread right side out, you need to sew up the hole with a hidden seam, either manually or using a machine.

You have sewn a light blanket with your own hands that will warm your child during cool summer nights. It is worth doing the same for cold weather, it will be different in density, therefore, it will retain more heat and warm the baby. The manufacturing principle is the same, you just need to add padding polyester.

  1. Cut out equal pieces of padding polyester, cotton and minky plush.

    Place the fabric on a flat surface, smooth it out, pin the pattern to it with pins and cut it out

    We make the same pattern from plush for the second side

    Detail made of padding polyester for the winter version of the blanket

  2. We lay the padding polyester, put plush on it with the smooth side, and cotton on top, face down.

    We put the parts on top of each other: padding polyester, plush, soft side up and the third layer - cotton, face down

  3. We pin the edges with pins, sew with a regular seam, retreating 1 cm. Leave 20 cm unstitched.

    Three layers of plaid pinned together

    We sew on a machine, retreating from the edge about 1 cm

  4. Through the resulting hole, turn the blanket inside out and manually sew the unstitched area.

    Leave a 15-20 cm gap so that you can turn the blanket right side out

  5. Since the inside is padding polyester, the fabric should be stitched several times along the outside. Sintepon can roll up when washed, causing some inconvenience, and multiple seams will help fix it.

    Turn it right side out and pin the remaining slot, sew it on the hands

    We pin the blanket along the edges

    We sew the blanket, retreating 3 cm from the edge

Caring for and washing a blanket

Plush is made of polyester, so washing is not a hassle. But there are still a few recommendations that need to be followed:

You should cut the plush carefully, as slight shedding may occur: some pieces of fabric may move away from the main one. But this will not affect the main part of the fabric.

What can you sew from minky plush?

The material is very modern and practical; many useful things are made from it:

  • decorative pillows, pillowcases for regular pillows;

    Minki plush and cotton polka dot pillow toys

  • blanket for babies and adults;

    Reversible Minky Plush Blanket

  • light summer blanket;

    Thin blanket with ears made of soft plush and cotton

  • envelope for discharge from the maternity hospital;

    Unusual envelope for discharge with your own hands

  • warm pajamas, dressing gowns, other home clothes;

    Soft plush baby onesie Minky

  • fluffy toys;

    Soft plush toy Minky “Whale”

  • hats, scarves, mittens for babies;

    Children's set of soft plush in turquoise and gray colors

  • rugs for children to have fun playing on.

How to decorate products made from plush fabric?

If the usual plain blanket or pajamas does not suit you, then you need to think about how to diversify the product.

  • Instead of plain fabrics, you can buy ones with a pattern. They will look more fun.
  • Beautiful embroidery on a blanket. True, this requires special skill and dexterity, but it is still possible. The main thing is to secure the blanket well so that the embroidery does not turn out crooked.

It's a bad idea to sew on sequins, beads, and other small items; they can easily be torn off and swallowed. If the product is not for children, for example, a decorative pillow, then the list of decorations increases significantly. The main thing is to show originality.

Plain plush looks aesthetically pleasing and attractive. Don't stop what you're doing and think about how to decorate a children's blanket. The baby will love it for its softness and warmth, and the fact that it is monochromatic is not at all important.

Long before the birth of a child, expectant mothers begin to prepare for the birth of a baby. In a few months they choose strollers, order a crib, buy clothes and envelopes for discharge ( in the previous article we prepared detailed instructions on how to sew an envelope for an extract with your own hands, if you are interested, go). It is important not to forget to prepare a warm blanket for the little person. It will always save the baby in questionable weather; it can be used to cover the child in a crib, in a stroller, or simply wrap him up.

In specialized children's goods stores, such things are not cheap, although their cost is much lower. It is clear that the markup includes rent for premises, salaries for employees, etc. Is it worth overpaying? Of course, it’s cheaper to buy a blanket in an online store. But then you won’t be able to touch it, examine the seams, the quality of the material, the color in the photo and in real life may differ. The best option is to sew the blanket yourself. In this case, you can choose high-quality fabric, and be sure that the material does not negatively affect the child’s skin, and you can monitor the quality of tailoring, and combine colors to your own taste. In general, there are many advantages, all that remains is to figure out how to do it quickly and correctly. So let's get started.

The first thing we start with is preparing the necessary materials and tools. The blanket will be double-sided.

You will need three different materials:

  1. Sintepon (if you are going to sew a winter blanket);
  2. Minky Plush;
  3. Cotton fabric.

You can buy these fabrics and padding polyester at. We have the largest collection of high-quality cotton, a huge selection of Minky plush and padding polyester. Prices are affordable. We guarantee quality and fast delivery.

Why plush and cotton?

Plush Minky- This is microfiber plush with a low and sparse pile. Its “trick” is its cute, soft and delicate little bumps that children really like. The fabric is very soft and delicate, pleasant to the body, incredibly warm. To understand the peculiarity of this material, think of a teddy bear. Contains 100% polyester. There is a misconception about the dubious quality of the fabric, but in fact, polyester is absolutely safe, since it is produced using modern technologies and modern equipment. You can find out more about the Minky plush.

You can buy a Minky plush inexpensively.

Cotton– it is also called “children’s”. This is a natural, hypoallergenic fabric that does not cause allergies or skin irritation, and is absolutely safe for the health of the child. Modern manufacturers offer a huge selection of flowers and prints. The most modern colors in the Polish cotton collection. This material is affordable. The fabric perfectly allows air to pass through and does not create a greenhouse effect; the skin breathes in summer and retains heat in winter. Cotton has the ability to absorb 30% of moisture from the total weight, and at the same time remain absolutely dry. This is a very important factor for children's skin, since the sweating function of a little person is formed before the age of 5. And increased body humidity is possible.

You can order Polish cotton at low prices. We guarantee quality and fast delivery.

You will also need:

  • Scissors;
  • Pencil or soap;
  • Threads;
  • Meter tape;
  • Sewing machine.

We decide on the size. Recommended: 100/100 cm (you will get a square blanket); 100/110 cm; 100/120 cm (rectangular shape). You can make a square blanket, or with rounded corners. A toe will help round the corners. The square shape can be immediately measured and cut out on the fabric. For a shape with round corners, it is better to make a pattern on paper. Then pin it to the cotton and cut it out. Do the same with plush and padding polyester (if the blanket is winter).

  1. Lay the plush on a flat surface, such as a table. Measure a square or rectangle of the desired size and cut along the contour. Repeat the same with cotton.
  2. Cut it the same size. We remind you once again that it is better to wash and dry it first, and only then start cutting. After this, you can safely wash the product and not worry that it will shrink. In some cases, shrinkage can be 4 cm per meter.
  3. You need to place the cotton and Minky plush right sides together. Remember that plush stretches. Therefore, we recommend pinning it around the entire perimeter so that nothing moves.
  4. We sew along the contour with a regular seam, departing 0.5-1 cm from the edge.
  5. Leave somewhere around the edge of 10-15 cm so that through this hole you can turn the blanket right side out. In this case, the seams will be on the inside.
  6. When you are finished with the edges, carefully turn the blanket out.
  7. Next you need to stitch the hole.
  8. This can be done with a hidden seam by hand or on a machine.
  9. You can add a border along the edges to create a flat border.

you can buy Minky cotton and plush at the best prices. Modern colors of the latest collections. Excellent quality. Fast delivery throughout Ukraine.

You should have a beautiful summer blanket for your child. If you need a blanket for colder times, use padding polyester. The sewing principle will be slightly different from the previous one.

  • Cut out 3 identical pieces of fabric, and the same from padding polyester.
  • Then lay out the padding polyester on a flat surface.
  • Cover it with plush on top - the side with the pimples facing up.
  • Then place the cotton face down on it.
  • Secure everything around the edges with pins.
  • Step back 1 cm from the edge and sew with a machine.
  • Leave a 20 cm hole in the corner of the blanket so that you can turn the blanket inside out. To make it look nicer when turned inside out, we recommend making small cuts at the corners and then turning it inside out.
  • Then secure the hole through which you turned it inside out with pins and sew it together by hand.
  • Step back 4 cm from the edge of the blanket and sew with a machine.
  • Don't forget that there is padding inside. When washed, it can pill and form unsightly lumps, while reducing its ability to warm. Therefore, we recommend stitching the blanket several times along the outside.
