1) There are two strands in the tie. For each we take two pieces of thread of each color, approximately 80 cm long, they will be folded in half. I will then tie pompoms to the edge, so I took 100 cm.
2) Fold the strand in half and pull out half the strand from the fold through the posts at the end of the eyelet/tie. We do the same with the second strand. Align the ends of the strands.
3) We begin to twist the strand from left to right, in the direction of twisting the yarn itself. The tighter you twist, the tighter and tighter the ties. I can’t show you the exact twist density. You need to try - it won’t work out the way you want, at the end you’ll need to untwist the ties and redo it (I twisted it several times the first time).
4) Pin the strand to the clothing with a needle so that it does not unwind. Can be pinned with a hairpin or clamped with Mr. teeth. Green And twist the second strand in the same way, to the same density!
5) We take two strands in our hands and begin to twist them (or wrap one strand around another) from right to left, just a couple of turns. Since twisting this way is quite tricky and uniform turns are not always achieved, I decided to do it by weight.
6) Take two strands in one hand at once and lower the hat down. We try to pull the strands away from the cap with equal force - then the turns will be even.
7) Lightly push the hanging cap to spin from right to left - the coils form on their own.
8) The hat itself will rotate as long as it has enough strength to twist the strands (more than it should be according to the density, the tie will still not twist). Then I twist the cap a little by hand.
9) Wrap tightly around your fingers so that the turns are distributed better.
10) If you did everything correctly and let go of the tie, it will not unwind.
11) Make a knot at the end of the tie. We wrap one strand around the tie and pull the end of this strand through the loop. We tighten a tight knot at this end.
12) Here is the finished plot. We cut off the ends if you don’t plan to attach anything to the bottom (you can add tassels or pom-poms at the bottom - then the ends should be longer).
13) The most difficult thing is to twist the two ties equally tightly. When you feel them, you will feel different densities. And if you put them side by side, the turns should go at the same distance. Mine are slightly different, but this will not be noticeable in the finished product.

This is the third part of a master class on knitting a kit for a newborn (and up to 3 months). In previous parts, I showed how to knit rompers and a blouse for a baby. In this part I will show you how to knit a hat with ears with knitting needles to this kit. As a result, we get a beautiful knitted set that can be worn in early autumn and late spring.
Before knitting a baby hat with ears, you should take two measurements:
head circumference
and the distance from the eyebrows to the crown.
Head circumference is measured along the maximum circumference passing in front through the brow ridges and behind through the protruding part of the back of the head. The distance from the eyebrows to the top of the head shows what the depth of the cap should be.
Since we are knitting a set for a child from 0 to 3 months, the size of the items should be slightly larger.

On average, a three-month-old baby has a head circumference of 42 cm, and the depth of the hat is 14-16 cm. Taking into account the fact that the hat should fit snugly, but not tightly, to the baby’s head, you need to cast on 95 sts with green yarn on knitting needles No. 3, which corresponds to 41 cm. Next you should knit 8 rows with a 1×1 elastic band.
After this, switch to needles No. 4 and knit in a “stitch” pattern, always knitting the 2nd and penultimate stitches in the front rows and purling in the back rows. In the first row, the elastic field needs to be reduced so that the fabric does not become too wide.

right ear – 19 p;
frontal part - 39 p;
left ear – 19 sts;
left back part – 9 p.
Along the typesetting edge, mark the boundaries of all parts with markers or pins. Then, using size 3 needles, pick up the stitches of both ears. 
Knit 3 cm with a stitch pattern. 
After this, decrease in every 2nd row from the right and left edges of each ear 7 times, 1 p. 
When 5 stitches remain on the needle from the eyes, bind off all the loops. 
At the ends of the ears, fasten ribbons or long pieces of yarn woven into a braid. Sew the edges of the cap using a vertical knitted seam. At the end, hook or use a needle with a large eye to hide the remaining ends of the yarn.

- After this, purl a pair together, make eight purls and then a pair together again. Finish the row according to this pattern.
- Knit the next row, and purl the fourth row.
- Knit the fifth line according to the knit seven pattern, a pair together.
- Knit the next two lines in the same way as the third and fourth.
- On the eighth row, purl a couple of them together, then knit six separately, continue this pattern until the end.
- Work two rows again in regular stitch without decreasing.
- After that, stick to the pattern: knit five, pair together, thus finishing the row.
- Purl the next line without decreasing.
- After this, stick to the pattern of knit four and a pair together.
- Row again without decreasing.
- After this, knit three knit stitches and a couple knit stitches together.

Now we collect everything into one product. To do this, on a long knitting needle, alternately cast on the loops from your ears and new ones for the front and back of the hat. Please note that at first the back of the hat will gradually increase in size and will eventually consist of two parts connected by a mattress seam. Thus, you need to add 1 loop, knit the loops of one ear using knit stitch (or any other stitch, if you don’t want the option from the photo), cast on an additional 20 loops for the front of the hat, knit the second eye and cast on an additional 1 loop.
Continue knitting the hat using your pattern or stockinette stitch as suggested in the photo. At the same time, add loops to expand the back of the product in every second row on both sides of the knitted fabric 1 time for 2 loops and 1 time for 3 loops. This will be about 8 rows. This will be the full width of your header. If necessary, you can adjust it by adding more loops during the knitting process.
You need to knit about 16 more rows, which will be the height of the cap before tapering at the crown.
Decrease in this way: 1 edge loop *, 5 knit loops, 2 loops with a tilt to the right, 2 knit loops, 2 loops with a tilt to the left, 5 knit loops *, repeat from * to *, 1 edge -I'm a loop.
Decrease stitches in this manner 3 more times every 2 rows, and pull off the remaining stitches after 2 rows. Sew the hat at the back using a mattress stitch.
For the front lapel, cast on 20 stitches along the edge and knit in garter stitch to the desired height. then close all the loops and attach the flap in any suitable way.

The second important step is to determine the knitting density. What does knitting density mean? This is the number of loops and rows required to knit a fabric measuring 10x10cm. What this means in “simple language” is to correctly calculate how many loops you need to cast on at the beginning of the work.
Cast on 22 loops and knit 10 cm in the pattern chosen for the hat.
Iron the knitted sample through a damp cloth. You don't need to smooth it out too much. Do this carefully, lightly “steaming” the sample.
Measure the prepared sample around the perimeter. Let's say you get a sample measuring 10x10 cm when knitting 30 rows. This means that the knitting density with this pattern will be 2 loops per 1 cm and 3 rows per 1 cm.
That is, for a size 56 hat you need to cast on: 56x2=112 stitches and knit 30 cm, that is, 30x3=90 rows.
Cast on the required number of stitches on circular needles. And knit in a circle, using the fishing line, with the previously selected pattern 25-27 cm up. You will get a knitted fabric in the form of a pipe. After 25 cm, start decreasing stitches by knitting 2 stitches together in every third row until you have 3 stitches left on the needle. When decreasing the stitches, knit the fabric in garter stitch. Break the thread from the skein, leaving about 10 cm, and pull it through the 3 remaining loops, knitting them together and securing the end on the wrong side.

If, when knitting the second half, there are two identical loops next to each other, then knit them together (so as not to knock the pattern), and at the end of the row add one loop. When the desired length is knitted, close the loops.
Now cast on loops along the entire length of the strip and knit 7 - 8 rows with an English elastic band, then 2.5 cm with a 1x1 elastic band. After this, start knitting the bottom: 2 rows with double stockinette knitting (knit the front loops with the face, remove the purl stitches, the thread remains before work). Then knit 2 stitches together across the face, so that the knit stitch is on top of the purl stitch. Knit 3-4 rows in simple stockinette stitch, then 2 rows across the face in double stockinette stitch, the next 1-2 knit rows in 2 stitches together. Pull the remaining 6-8 loops. Steam the bottom through a damp cloth.

Description:
You need to cast on 31 stitches on the knitting needles and knit a transverse strip of any knitting that you choose yourself for a frill 110 cm long, so that it has a beautiful and finished look, then make the corners on it in shortened rows.
In each row, be sure to decrease the knitted loops by 2, that is, first you need to knit 29 loops on the front side of the product, then leave 2 loops intact, wrapping around the 30th loop and turning the knitted product to the wrong side, then knitting the entire row to the end.
In the next row on the front side, also knit 27 loops, leaving 4 loops intact.
Wrap around the 28th loop and turn it over again to the wrong side. Thus, knit the entire product.
Having stopped under-knitting all the loops of the corner, begin to knit the main part, increasing the rows, which will make it possible to change the direction of knitting. First, knit three loops on the front side, and in subsequent rows increase the number of loops by 2, but only knitted ones.
Having knitted the strip with the corners, on one side, cast on about 180 loops along the edge loops and knit the product with garter stitch. Then remove one stitch every three stitches on the next row. Repeat such decreases 2 more times. Then knit 5 cm in garter stitch.
After 5 cm for the main part of the hood, add evenly up to 90 stitches and again knit another 17 cm in garter stitch. Then select 30 loops in the center and knit only them, grabbing and knitting together - both at the beginning and at the end - 2 loops from the central part on each side. After all the central loops are connected to the side loops, close the remaining loops.

Necessary:
- 250-300 g yarn
- circular knitting needles No. 2.5

Cast on 80 loops, close in a circle and knit 4-6 rows in stockinette stitch, i.e. facial loops.
When I join in a circle, I leave a tail of thread to mark the beginning of the row. Divide the number of loops into three parts - 18 stitches, 44 stitches, 18 stitches. On 44 loops we will knit a visor, making an increase of 10 loops every 4 loops. We make an increase so that the visor fits well and fits comfortably in its pocket.
When the pocket for the visor is knitted and the decreases are made, we knit the second half of the headband.
We fold the fabric into pieces, throw the tail of the thread onto the face of the knitting (beginning of the row!). In order to knit a double hat of your size, you need to know the circumference of your own head. Determine it using a measuring tape. Write down the result and calculate the stitches for the set. A standard for which you need to knit a small square using a working thread will help you make the calculation correctly. Count the number of loops in one centimeter of the standard.
To knit the front part of the hat, multiply this amount by the circumference of the head in centimeters and add 4-5 loops for supply. For the lining, take yarn designed for knitting children's clothes. It does not prick and does not cause skin irritation.

The most reliable elastic band is 1x1. It stretches well and retains its original appearance for a long time. Having knitted 5-6 cm of elastic bands, start stocking knitting. When knitting in the round, it is better to knit the front loops using the front thread, so they turn out more even.

Once all the loops are closed, secure the thread to the wrong side of the hat with a crochet hook.
For the lining of the hat, cast on loops from the wrong side of the main fabric, immediately after finishing the elastic band. Don't forget to decrease 4-5 stitches. Knit in stockinette stitch. Tie the lining 1-2 cm shorter than the main part of the hat and close it according to the same pattern.
Wash knitted items by hand, in warm water, using special detergents for washing knitted items. They must be wrung out without twisting, but dried on a terry towel in a straightened form.
Hat with ears
Size 56-57.
Necessary:
- 150 g yarn
- circular knitting needles 4 mm
Description:
For the first “ear” you need to cast on 7 loops and knit in this order: 1Krom., 1IP, 1LP, 1IP, 1LP, 1IP, 1Krom.
The 2nd and all purl rows are knitted according to the pattern.
Once you have about 21 stitches on your needles, measure the length of the eyelet.
If the length is suitable, then set it aside and start knitting the second one.
If not, then knit directly the required length, but without adding loops.
Tie the second “ear” in the same way.
Then, on circular or stocking needles (you can knit on straight ones, but then there will be a seam along the back of the head, and the loops will need to be distributed taking into account this seam), cast on 33 loops, add 21 loops of the first “eye”, cast on 33 loops again, add 21 loops of the second “eye”.
Next, knit with a regular elastic band 1LP x 1IP for about 3-4 rows. Make sure that the elastic pattern is distributed harmoniously across the new cast-on stitches.
Those. for the front and back of the cap, which consist of 31 loops, distribute the loops as follows:

Check the height of the cap, if it fits, then pull the remaining loops with the end of the thread and secure them. As a rule, the height of a hat with ears can be from 20 to 22 centimeters. Perhaps some people like it taller.
If the height is not enough, then knit a few more rows in height, while shortening the existing loops, and close at the end.
For the ties, attach pieces of yarn to the ends of the “ears”. About half as long as the desired length of the strings themselves. Take the yarn in several threads for three parts, which you will then braid into a braid. This will be your tie. Tie a knot at the end and straighten the yarn at the bottom of the tie with scissors.

Description:
The number of loops should be divided by 4, plus 2 edge loops. If we knit for an adult, approximately 98 loops will be required: 96+2=98.
We cast on loops and start knitting the first row: remove the edge loop without knitting, then 2x2 elastic: 2 knit loops, 2 purl loops, always knit the last loop of the row (edge loop) purl to maintain even edges of the product. We always remove the first stitch of the row without knitting.
All further rows, both purl and knit, are knitted according to the pattern: 2 knit stitches above the knit stitches, 2 purl loops above the purl stitches.
When the required depth of the cap is reached, taking into account the lapel option you have chosen, we begin to make decreases from the next front row: we knit 2 purl loops together with a purl loop.
In the second row (purl) we knit according to the pattern: 2 purl loops, 1 knit stitch.
In the third row we decrease the knit stitches: instead of two knit stitches, we knit two knit stitches together. The result is a 1x1 elastic band: 1 knit stitch from two knit stitches, 1 purl stitch.
Fourth row - according to the pattern: 1 purl loop, 1 knit stitch.
For the fifth row (front row), we knit two stitches together.
And the sixth, final row - purl all the loops.
As you can see, decreases when knitting a hat from a rectangle have the same principle as when knitting in the round, only adjustments are made to the front and back rows.
When knitting a hat from a rectangle, it is better to leave the tip of the thread sub-line so that it is enough for the back seam. We collect the remaining loops on it using a hook or a large needle, pull it into a ring and carefully sew the cap together. You can connect the edges of a cap in different ways (with seams), this is a reason for a separate article, but the main goal in any case is to make sure that the seam looks equally neat both on the front side and in that part of the back that will be visible when the edge of the cap is turned back . Remember this!

How to knit a hat with a pattern
Hats with a pattern look more impressive, but knitting them is much more difficult, since you need to monitor both the shape of the hat and the pattern. Sometimes you get lost and have to start all over again. But if you are careful and practice on a small sample, you will succeed the first time.
English elastic hat
Necessary:
- wool yarn – 50 g at 135 m;
- straight knitting needles No. 4 – 2 pcs.;
- crochet hook;
- scissors;
- darning needle.
1. Find out the head circumference of the future owner of the headdress and be sure to make a small square of knitted fabric for the sample - the knitting density is always calculated individually. When knitting a hat with English elastic, an elastic, almost dimensionless product is created. In the described example, with a head circumference of 55-60 cm, a knitwear density of 18 loops for 46 rows, 78 loops are cast on for the headband of the hat. The knitting needles are straight and of medium diameter (No. 4).
You can start knitting a hat with English elastic without making an elastic border. At the same time, you can make the fabric of the product either with or without a turn. Please note: the 1x1 elastic band secures the edge well!
2. Knit the headband in straight and purl rows, alternating 2 knit stitches and 2 purl stitches. When 8 rows are ready, start knitting the hat with an English elastic band. In the first row of the pattern you will need to make even increases, bringing the total number of loops to 95.
To add loops, divide the row into equal sections, and knit an additional thread in each. To do this, grab and twist the transverse threads between adjacent loops.
3. Work the fluffy fabric with an English elastic until you reach a height of 25 cm from the edge of the rim. To form the main knitwear pattern, alternate stitches in the following sequence. In the first row of the pattern, do only knit stitches; start the second row with the edge loop (it can be removed unknitted); do the front one. Next, repeat the so-called double knit stitches, inserting the right knitting needle into the thread bow of the previous row. The final loops are the front and edge stitches.
4. Start the third row of English rib also with an edge loop, then alternate double and regular knit stitches until there are only a couple of thread arches left on the left needle. Knit the first one as a double knit stitch, the second one will be an edge stitch. Repeat the pattern according to the finished sample of the second and third rows until you have made the main fabric of the headdress of the desired size.
5. Start shaping the crown of the hat. To round the knitted fabric and tighten it at the top, make uniform decreases in the forward and reverse rows: at the beginning, an edge loop; during a row of 3 thread arches are knitted together with a regular knit stitch; at the end - edging. In the next row, make decreases without leaving edges, always knit 3 loops together.
6. Cut the working yarn, leaving a tail about 10 cm long. Pull it over the open loops of the last row and drag it with the hook inside the hat. Form a strong knot.
7. Turn the hat wrong side down, steam the knitted fabric and carefully connect the side edges of the part. Make a neat connecting seam using a darning needle and thread from a working ball. To ensure that the stitching remains sufficiently elastic and the product does not deform, do not make the stitches too tight.

Stylish hat with braids
Necessary:
- 150 g yarn

I knitted it on two needles, because I have a large thread on circular needles and it results in a lot of tension and large holes between the loops, and I like it tighter. Then I sewed it together.
I cast on 96 stitches on the knitting needles. Knitting needles No. 3.5. Knitted in 2 threads, yarn with 20% wool, 135g per 50m.
I knitted a 2×2 elastic band about 6 cm.
Switched to knitting needles No. 4.5
Pattern:
- (p2, k6, p2, k2) - repeat until the end of the row.
- knit according to the pattern, where from inside to outside, where from faces to faces.
Knit 6 rows like this and in the 7th row make overlaps where there are 6 faces. (YouTube is full of videos on how to knit braids). I did this: I transfer 3 loops to a toothpick, knit the next 3, return these 3 loops from the toothpick to the left knitting needle and knit them too. Then, according to the pattern, 2 purl, 2 knit, 2 purl and again overlaps. So until the end of the row.
After these overlaps, we knit 1 row on the wrong side according to the pattern, I don’t count it.

I want to tell you how I added strings to an ordinary knitted hat for my son, because it is simply impossible for small children to walk in an ordinary hat like this!
The curious head spins continuously, and the hat constantly slides here and there. Your ears are on point, you don’t have time to correct them. If you put on a hood, then even worse, the hat then automatically slides down over your eyes. And it also happens that the child is simply tired of it and with one second movement the hat already flies overboard. In short, a hat without ties is in any place, just not where it should be. And by adding ties to it, we will fix it in the right place!
We select the yarn to match the tone as much as possible, and we also try to select the thickness of the thread so that it matches our hat.
I used size 2 knitting needles and a mysteriously named "competitive" yarn. We need to knit 4 ears: 2 regular, and two with ties. Cast on 20 loops:
Row 1: knit stitches
Row 2: purl
Row 3: knit
Row 4: purl
Row 5: knit
Row 6: purl loops, remove 1 loop from both ends (knit two loops together into one)
Row 7: knit
Row 8: same as row 6 - remove one at a time
Row 9: knit
Row 10: purl, remove one at a time
Row 11: knit
Row 12: purl, remove one at a time
Row 13: knit
Row 14: purl, remove one at a time
Row 15: knit
Row 16: purl, remove one at a time
Row 17: knit
Row 18: purl, remove two loops at a time (knit one together twice)
And two more without ties: where there are 4 loops left, close them. Here's what I got:
Now let’s put it together: take one piece with a tie, the other without it, pin it together with needles and I stitched it on a machine, it turns out prettier and smoother, but you can also sew it with a crochet stitch if anyone knows how. You need to stitch it, as shown in the figure with a dotted line, while putting the tail inside.
Now we actually sew it to the hat itself. Approximately at the distance where the child’s ears should be located (you can try them on), we pin our ears and stitch them on a typewriter. That's it!
